Two Tri-Valley League programs will try to reach the soccer Class D Final Four by winning quarterfinal games Saturday, Nov.8.
The Edmeston boys and Richfield Springs/Owen D. Young girls will try to keep their soccer dreams going for one more weekend by winning in the state quarterfinals Saturday. Edmeston will play Section X champion Colton-Pierrepont. RS/ODY will challenge Section III champion Cincinnatus.

RICHAELD SPRINGS/ OWEN D. YOUNG (16-2) VS CINCINNATUS (17-2)
Cincinnatus has won four straight section titles, including one Class C title last year and has won three straight regional games, leading to a state title in 2023 and a championship-game loss the year before. During that run, the Lions have dispatched Section IV champs Schenevus (3-2 in 2022), Edmeston/Morris (2-0 in 2023) and Notre Dame (5-0 in 2024).
This season, the Lions have given up just eight goals, and four of those were in two early season losses to bigger schools, 2-1 to Hamilton on Sept. 5, and 3-1 to Class A Chittenango on Sept. 27. In three playoff games, Cincinnatus has outscored opponents, 11-0.
“They’re skilled. They play a nice brand of soccer,” Richfield Springs/Owen D. Young Coach Thomas Hoose said. Still, the Lions are just another team of girls, he said. They are ranked No. 1 in Class D, but the Eagles are ranked No. 4, which Hoose said he pointed out to his girls. “That is the message all week,” he said. “There’s not much difference between the No. 1 team in the state and the No. 4 team.” “We’re hoping to take away their strengths and use ours
